THE REVIEW: FREDDY SMALLS
July 8, 2013 | Chelsee Lowe, Chow
Westside gastropub Freddy Smalls started serving brunch about three weeks ago.
Chowhound Jase tried it recently, and reported that things look very, very promising. Though the restaurant’s still finding its legs, the food and drinks did not disappoint and the service was as friendly as ever.
No surprise that brunch shines, considering how much Chowhounds like the rest of the food here. The fried Brussels sprouts with cider glaze and smoked goat cheese (S. Irene Virbila raved about them in the LA Times in June) are “addictive,” says gordo26 and ZoeZ. Fig Newton thinks that two other exceptional bites are the smoked fingerling potatoes and the Buffalo deviled eggs with crispy chicken skin and Point Reyes blue cheese.
The drinks are just as good. Try the “epic” pickled peach Old Fashioned, or good beer from the tap.
